We all have deep fissures on the surface of our teeth which collect plaque and tartar over time and allow bacteria to grow, causing cavities.
One way to reduce the likelihood of cavities is by applying a dental sealant to teeth. By sealing the chewing surfaces of teeth from tartar and plaque, dental sealants will greatly help reduce cavities. Dr. Firlik can determine if this procedure is right for you.
Dental Sealants are Fast and Painless:
- The teeth are cleaned and dried
- Acidic gel is applied to roughen the chewing surfaces of the teeth
- The acidic gel is rinsed away
- The teeth are dried
- Liquid sealant solution is painted over grooves on the teeth surfaces
- A special curing light is used to harden the sealant material
Dental Sealant Benefits
Sealants for Children: The most common and chronic childhood disease in the United States is tooth decay, according to the CDC. Kids between the ages of 6 and 14 are most susceptible. Dr. Firlik often recommends dental sealants when children see their permanent teeth come in.
Dr. Firlik also will recommend dental sealants for adults, when appropriate.
Remember that dental sealants are not meant to replace good oral hygiene habits. Continue to brush your teeth twice per day and floss at least once daily. Continue to see our team at least every 6 months for a teeth cleaning and oral examination. At Firlik Family Dentistry and Airway Health Care, we will help you maintain a healthy smile with the use of dental sealants.
